Third Novel
Dr. Portera is presently hard at work on his third novel—a medical mystery thriller that will be released in the autumn of 2008. This is the first time that the author has utilized the fields of dentistry (a profession that he spent 29 years practicing and teaching) and medicine, to present one of his psychological thrillers. “I’m particularly proud that Charles A. Marascalco, M.D.-—a relative who is a retired renown gastroenterologist—-has provided the corroborative medical information." The core of the novel centers on an illness that the national news media has recently shown great interest in, particularly as its proliferation in humans seems to have a strong association with the global warming phenomenon.
Portera will again use the fictional character, Dr. Matteo DeLucca (a retired forensic psychologist and former private investigator) to answer the journalistic-like questions that concern What, Where, When Why, Who, and How—-as he did in his previous two novels—-creative works of fiction that read like non-fiction. Many readers report that J. John Portera’s fiction reads more like truth than non-fiction, and the author says that this is due to three elements that are routinely present in his novels:
“First, I personally believe creative fiction, like paranoia, always has some strands of truth within it. Secondly, little to nothing new happens under the sun; the historical kinship of human action and conduct assures one of this, time after time. Last, the watermark-like stamps of my imaginative writing is the fact that I do use the actual names of well-recognized places, institutions, and even the weather record for a certain date and locale. I intentionally do this so my readers may taste the flavoring spice of fact that I generously stir into my fiction."
